From the moment my daughter entered the world, I found myself wanting to capture and share all the little things that happened with each passing day. I wanted to capture not only the the big milestones but also the little daily things she did and MY thoughts and emotions around them. During my pregnancy and after she was born, my husband and I were taking countless photos (that just sat on a hard drive) to document these incredible times while also trying to remember the amazing things she did and eventually, said, her interactions with other people, the thoughts that I and the people around her were having. I wanted to not only capture all these memories myself but to let others, like my mom, share in them and, more importantly, add to them from their own unique perspectives. Most importantly though, I wanted to eventually share it all with my daughter (and now the same thing with my son!) as she grows so that later in life she can look back at these times, enjoy them as we did and know how much I have always loved her. …and perhaps start adding to her own story.
Blinkbuggy was born out of my frustration in trying to find a way to do all these things I wanted. It all started with gmail. I set up an account in my daughter’s name to which I would send quick thoughts and milestones. I sent the email address around to family and close friends letting them know that I would be writing to my daughter throughout her life and asking that they also contribute. I asked them to share their experiences of her or send her pictures so that, as she got older, she could also see and read memories from the other people in her life. It didn’t take me long to realize that I needed something more, something that allowed me to really capture ALL of the different memories, big and small, that happen on a daily basis, something that told the full “story” of her life and those in it. I searched and searched for a solution but couldn’t find one that worked for me (or even anything better than the gmail account). When none of my other mom friends could find a solution either, something just clicked. I decided to try build the solution myself and so, Blinkbuggy was born!
As a long time Google employee, I was constantly exposed to the power and limitless potential and promise of the internet. With Blinkbuggy, my professional experience and my personal experience of becoming a new mom melded together! I designed Blinkbuggy to address all of those things that I wanted to do but couldn’t. I designed it to make memories not only easy and fun to collect but also to connect the countless moments that make up our lives and create rich, meaningful stories, all in one place, so they can be shared today and passed on to the next generation.
Blinkbuggy is a work in progress. As a user, I’m thrilled about where Blinkbuggy is today (and I hope you are too!) but as a “mother”, much like with our kids, I’m incredibly excited about its future growth and potential. I look forward to sharing many more exciting Blinkbuggy milestones with you in the months and years to come.
In the meantime, I wish you nothing but Happy Memories!
